Two early Sunday morning earthquakes provided a rude awakening to residents of Salinas and parts of Manabi Province. The quakes, 4.4 and 5.0. magnitude, occurred within minutes of each other at 4:05 and 4:44 a.m. early Sunday morning.

Both quakes were centered about 20 kilometers offshore. No injuries or damage have been reported.

The Geophysical Institute said the earthquakes were not related.
