I would like to assist two very special ladies. They are twins in fact. When I first moved to Cuenca, I asked the building manager about a cleaner. I was still sick in those days and needed some help. He referred me to a wonderful family. I thought it would be an issue as they spoke only Spanish, and I didn’t. Over the course of the next year I came to appreciate them all. The dad helped me with a few household repairs (direct TV destroyed some drywall) The mom came every week with one of the daughters. In fact there we three daughters. They cleaned every nook and cranny. They folded my clothes, finished laundry if there was any, did dishes, cleaned the fridge… every time they left the place looked like I just moved in.
Christy and Mary do not have enough cleaning jobs to keep things going. Christy is married with a child and they are struggling. Mary just completed the University and hasn’t been able to find any jobs. I tell you this for background, not sympathy. These are two very hard working and honest people. They are more than fair on price and did more than I expected. Mary also does work from time to time as a nanny.
If you have a need for a one time, or on going cleaner I highly recommend them.

We are currently raising a second batch of our Kariokos Chickens that we have featured in our newsletter each week. We have also built a second chicken tractor that we are using to raise a batch of the standard white chickens too. And, you know what? They are doing very well indeed! (See picture) We have observed that the white chickens grow faster but eat more food (as expected). They also have more breast meat and carry more fat.
Our Chickens come cleaned and butchered and ready to cook. Butchering options include (1) whole or cut into parts, and (2) with or without organ meat. They are freshly processed and are kept cold (not frozen) until purchase.
The Chickens vary in weight a little bit, but at $2.50/lb, most will sell for between $10.00 and $12.50 of ready to cook meat.
We will be offering only the WHITE chickens to our customers for pick-up on Monday, June 26th. (We expect to have both varieties available the following Monday.) As they are popular, we recommend you send an email soon to email@example.com letting us know the quantity and butchering instructions. You will receive an order confirmation and we will bring it to the Market at the Bayou Caffee on Monday, June 26th for you to pick up…Bon appétit.
The GRAN ROCA Farm Fresh Market will be held on Monday, June 19th, from 2-4pm at the Bayou Caffee, near Parque El Vergel, take Paucarbamba, left on Los Alisos, left again on Del Arupo.
The GRAN ROCA Wednesday Farm Fresh Market has been postponed as we recover from the very challenging rainy season. We will announce when we are able to start again.
This Week’s Fresh Market Produce:
Fruits: Our Special Bananas, Strawberries, Lemons
Tomatoes: Eggplant, Green and Red Peppers, Hot Peppers

For example, we have a large variety of herbs we bring only upon request.

On Monday I spoke to an official at the Cuenca IESS office and was told that the price increase for expat social security members has been delayed. At the expat meeting last month, the IESS people said the prices would increase in July. Apparently, there has been a change of the top IESS administrator in the Cuenca division and this has delayed a final decision. The lady I talked to said all changes are under review but she could not give me any more any more information until the new boss is in place. Stay tuned.
We will follow the Inca trail from Achupallas to Ingapirca. We will pass through indigenous villages, mountains, lakes and the ruins of Ingapirca. The Inty Raymi Feast is about an old tradition of the Inca people. During the Inca Empire, the Inti Raymi was the most important of four ceremonies celebrated in Cusco in honor of the god “Inti“ (The Sun). The celebration took place in the main plaza in the city. It lasted for nine days and was filled with colorful dances and processions, as well as animal sacrifices to thank Pachamama and to ensure a good cropping season. This tradition has carried on for years. Don’t miss this colorful feast with dances, music and of course food. Book this tour with us for Saturday or Sunday. For more information come by our office or contact us via email.
